The future landscape of exchanges and the rise of market places for alternative asset classes
As the world takes stock of the worst global recession in a generation, the exchanges industry continues to face its own “perfect storm” of declining volumes, lower trading costs and increased competition. In this session we will discuss:-
- Should all exchanges de-mutualize
- Impact of technology and connectivity on the exchanges
The session will then move on to discuss how new market places are evolving to cater to the alternative assets market. Traditionally there have been a variety of alternative asset classes - from real estate to limited partnership interests in investment funds – and investors have been locked up in these investments for periods as long as a decade. Although this lack of liquidity has not been an issue in the past, with the recent worldwide economic crisis, investors are beginning to realize the true benefits of liquidity. With this realization has come the rise of active secondary markets for many of these alternative asset classes.
Speakers and Panelists include
- Ito Warsito, Chairman of Asian and Oceanian Stock Exchange Federation (AOSEF), and President Director of Indonesia Stock Exchange
- Thomas McMahon, CEO of Singapore Mercantile Exchange
- Jason Sambanju, Director, Paul Capital Partners
